Last year’s Red Bull Bedroom Jam winners Walking On Cars have had a whirlwind year since the competition, performing on Other Voices, touring the country and bothering One Direction on the iTunes charts with their first single Catch Me If You Can.
The Dingle five-piece took some time out of promoting the single to give some advice to this year’s Bedroom Jam participants.
Keep writing and rehearsing
You haven’t won anything yet, so you have to keep up the hard work throughout Bedroom Jam.
Do as many gigs as possible to get as much exposure as possible
Being online is obviously paramount in the Bedroom Jam but don’t get too precious over your shoe-leather, get out and gig.
Keep your fans entertained and try and think outside of the box to set you apart from other bands
You don’t need to cross-dress or put on masks to turn heads but you need to pick something that makes you stand out from the crowd.
Get your community behind you
If people are already invested in your music, ask them to give you the boost up you need.
Be prepared for the studio so that you don’t lose valuable time
Obviously it’s a new experience being in a big studio for the first time but do your research and be ready to work when you get there.
Research the most suitable producer for your type of music
Bloc Party and Snow Patrol producer Tom McFall was perfect for us but make sure you’re as lucky when you go to record.
Enjoy every opportunity you get
Playing the final in Whelans, being on the festival circuit at Indiependence, Sea Sessions, recording in Grouse Lodge with Tom McFall are all indispensable in terms of our band but there also experiences we’ll never forget.
