The details of the various prizes and stages of the competition are outlined below.
    • b. What opportunities are open to bands who enter? • d. When do I have to have entered by? The last band to play a Red Bull Bedroom Jam Live Show will be announced on 20th May 2013. Bands uploading after this date will not be eligible to take part in Red Bull Bedroom Jam 2013.
  • 2. I’m in a band, how do I take part?
    • a. New to Red Bull Bedroom Jam. If you are new to Red Bull Bedroom Jam first up you’ll need a video of your band, uploaded to YouTube. This could be anything from a camera phone recording to a professionally shot video. As long as people can see and hear you, they can like, share and comment on you. It’s the talent that matters, not your promo budget! Remember though you must disable any advertising or annotations from any videos you submit. Next go to www.redbullbedroomjam.ie (hint – you’re already there!) and click ‘Register’. Fill in your details to become a User, then check your email to get your password. Log in to your User account from any page on the Red Bull Bedroom Jam website, then click ‘Create A Band’. Fill in the details of your band including your name, location and biography, your MySpace, Facebook and Twitter URLs, and the YouTube URL of the video you’re submitting.Hit submit and you’re done! We’ll check your video doesn’t include any obscene or unsuitable material, and then your page will be live on the website.
    • b. Returning band. If you are a band returning to Red Bull Bedroom Jam simply log into your account and re-activate! You then just have to upload a new video and you are ready to go.

    • d. What next? Once your page is live, either send the web address or use the ‘Share’ buttons to spread the word across Facebook, Twitter, music websites and forums, and the wider web once the Buzz chart is live on April 8th. The more people watch, comment on and share your video the higher you’re likely to soar up the Buzz Chart. The Buzz Chart is what measures the hype around your band across the web. The more people are talking about you and watching your videos, the bigger the hype. So tell the world, anyway you can!
    • e. I’ve entered Red Bull Bedroom Jam before, can I re-enter? If you’ve previously performed in a Red Bull Bedroom Jam show (i.e. the Red Bull team came to your house and filmed you), or if you’ve been chosen for any other Red Bull Bedroom Jam experiences, unfortunately you cannot re-enter. However, because bands grow, change and develop, the slate is wiped clean for 2013, so if you’ve entered before but never won a Bedroom Jam experience you can simply reactivate your account for 2013.
  • 3. How does Red Bull Bedroom Jam work?
    • a. Red Bull Bedroom Jam is made up of five phases:
      1. Live Shows

Starting Monday 8th April, every Monday at midday, the band at the top of the Buzz Chart will be confirmed to play a Red Bull Bedroom Jam “Live” Show the following Monday at midday.

These performances will be recorded ‘as live’ but are not streamed live (see ‘How the Competition Works’ section for more information).

On Wednesday 10th April, our film crew will visit the house of one of the band’s members to film the first performance, which will be released ‘as live’ on Monday 15th April. This process will be repeated for a total of 6 ‘live shows’, with one being released on the website every weeks until Monday 27th May.

      2. Festival Chart

Each band that plays a Live Show is then taken off the Buzz Chart and added to the Festival Chart. This chart works in exactly the same way as the Buzz Chart measuring the hype, talk and activity around your band but this time they will be watching, liking and sharing one of your songs recorded at your live show. The top three bands from the festival chart become our finalists

      3. Festival Tour

Our three finalists will play at two Irish music festivals selected by the organisers during the summer of 2012. Festivals at which our finalists will play at include Indiependence, Westport Festival, Castlepalooza  and Glasgowbury.

      4. Live Final

Finally fresh off their festival tour the three finalists will go head to head in a live final at Dublin’s iconic music venue Whelan’s in August 2013. One act will then be chosen on the night by our panel of expert judges as the overall winner of Red Bull Bedroom Jam 2013.

      5. The Studio Session

The 2013 champions will then win the opportunity to live and record for one week in the world famous Grouse Lodge with a top producer, the decision on who that producer is comes via consultation with the winning band.

    • b. How do I influence the charts? Both the Buzz Chart and the Festival Buzz Chart work in exactly the same way. They measure activity relating to your band across social media sites to work out the buzz around your band. This includes:
      • Number of views on your Red Bull Bedroom Jam band page
      • The comments on your Red Bull Bedroom Jam band page
      • Tweets that include your Twitter handle
      • Page views on MySpace
      • Number of plays on your MySpace music player
      • Plays on YouTube
      • The number of likes and comments your facebook page generates

All of these stats are collated and the Buzz Chart spits out a ranking relative to the other bands that have uploaded. The aim, of course, is to be number one!

Please note: Bands on the Festival Chart move up and down in exactly the same way, relating to views and comments on one of their live show videos. Rating a band will not effect movement on the Buzz or Festival Chart.

    • c. The Judges. So who are the judges?
      • Niall Byrne – Nialler9 is a blogger at the helm of the most-read music blog in Ireland Nialler9.com
      • Dara Quilty – Host of Dublin’s Spin1038 “Zoo Crew” and founding member of Fox Avenue
      • Paddy Glasgow – Founder of Glasgowbury and G-Sessions and leading supporter of up and coming bands in Northern Ireland
  • 4. I’m not in a band, can I still take part?
    • a. Spread the Word we all have the family member, friend or friend of friend who should be famous but never ‘got the breaks’. Well this is their opportunity so spread the word and get them to upload music.
    • b. Have your say The fans are just as important to Red Bull Bedroom Jam as the bands. Without fans, bands would play to empty venues! Get watching, liking, sharing and commenting. Fans know a good band when they hear them and so you need to score each video and then comment underneath. Please keep it polite though! If you didn’t like a band, why not offer them some helpful advice rather than just slag them off!
